I want to talk about my patient Kristen. Now, Kristen came to me looking for a cosmetic result. The problem with that was that Kristin already has a fairly good smile. So the question becomes how do we take a good smile and make it even better? Well, when we do start to look closely at Kristen's smile, we can start to see a few problems. Number one, looking at the width of her smile, she does have a bit of a narrow smile. She has some dark shadows in the corners and also her back teeth fade away quite quickly compared to the front ones, making them look a little bit dark. When we look at her facial profile, that's when we can really see some problems. She has very prominent cheeks, beautiful cheeks and a prominent chin but the lower facial third of her face is actually concave in. She has quite deficient lips and her smile is set very far back. Looking inside her mouth we can see why that might be the case. So she has quite a narrower upper jaw, it's almost as if someone came along and pinched it in and made it into a V shape. But overall, you know her teeth are actually quite nicely aligned and they do fit together well. So it is a tough case. This is following 18 months of treatment with Damon Clear braces and she had elastics and bite turbos as well. And following the treatment we can see that her upper jaw is much wider. Although her teeth haven't changed much in alignment, it has done a lot to the facial appearance. We can see she has a much wider and fuller smile. There's a lot less shadowing in the corners and her teeth don't look like they fade away so quickly. But this is where the real change has happened. So, we can see there's a lot more lip support. Her chin and her cheeks aren't as prominent and the low facial third of her face just appears a lot more fuller. So these are the before and afters of her face and you can see it's really done a lot to change, particularly from that angle, the support to her lower facial third.
