Описание к видео 7407A BRITAIN'S GENERAL ELECTION

(17 Feb 1974) STORY
On February 28th 1974, Britain's 40 million voters go to the polls to pass judgement on the country's
economic crisis and to decide who is responsible for it. Prime Minister Edward Heath and his Conservative
government are asking for a strong mandate to face the challenge from Britain's coalminers, who are
presently on strike for higher pay. The Opposition Labour Party, led by former premier Harold Wilson, says that deeper economic problems, such as inflation and the balance of payments, are the real issues. One possible result is that neither party will obtain an overall majority in the new House of Commons, leaving the small Liberal party, led by Jeremy Thorpe, holding a balance of power.
