Tempers flared at the UN Security Council as a Russia-China proposal to delay the reimposition of UN sanctions on Iran failed, exposing sharp divides among the 15-member body. Only Russia, China, Pakistan, and Algeria supported the measure, while nine members- including the US, UK, France, and other Western states - voted it down, and two abstained. The draft sought a technical six-month extension of the 2015 nuclear accord’s suspension of sanctions (JCPOA), encouraging diplomatic engagement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
