DIY Stem Bag - MYOG

Описание к видео DIY Stem Bag - MYOG

In this episode of zipworks I'm making a DIY bikepacking stem bag, also known as a feed bag. It is the third and final project in the DIY bike bags mini-series having previously made a handlebar bag and a saddle bag. Stem bags are popular not only among bikepackers for good reason, they are provide storage accessible while riding the bike. They are perfectly suited to hold anything from an extra water bottle, to snacks or even a camera. I made it 3x3x7in which I find to be just the right size for me and holds a standard 500 mil bidet just right. It's quite minimal in it's design but allows for fitting on either side of stem because the webbing ladder spans across the sides and back. The front panel holds a small stretchy pocket which I find handy for keeping wrappers until the next bin when they may be discarded. A notably feature is the cyberian cord lock which allows for one handed opening and closing of the cinch collar, a vast improvement over a regular cord lock. The main fabric is once again ballistic nylon, which I find works great for this type of bag because it holds its shape so well. The material is also highly weather resistant and surely can take a lot of beating. The collar is made from 40d ripstop nylon, a robust fabric yet light enough to cinch without hassle. Note that the seam used to close the collar is a french seam. I first put 1/8 in seam wrong sides together and then turn it right sides together and put an 1/4 in seam. This encapsulates the raw edge and makes for a really neat looking seam.

Thanks for watching!

ABOUT
-
This video is not a tutorial per se. This is how I enjoy documenting a few of my projects, it's not meant as a comprehensive sew-along guide. Some may find it useful to see how I like do things but my hope is primarily that some will find these videos inspiring - sparking creativity and ideas for making their very own bespoke gear. My thinking is that by showing the projects in a fast-paced and light-hearted manner conveys the message that making your own ultralight gear as a hobby is not very difficult and ultimately a very rewarding pursuit.

That said, I realise that some people watching this may want to follow along and some of them will be beginners at sewing. I try my best to not leave any important steps out of the clips but for anyone finding it hard to follow even with a rewatch, leave a comment below and I or someone else in the community may be able to assist.

* For a variety of reasons, I'm not always able to link the exact item used in the video. Sometimes it is no longer sold, sometimes I got something at a local store, not online. Often, I simply forget where I got something in the first place - over the years I have collected tons of MYOG supplies and can longer remember where I got it. In those cases, I will link what I think is the closest equivalent and/or what I would have purchased.
