Leah Macaden is speaking about Igniting the Spark for Dementia Care Excellence
About the Speaker:
Dr Leah Macaden is a Senior Lecturer and the Lead for Internationalisation in the Department of Nursing & Midwifery at University of the Highlands & Islands with 25 years of experience as a nurse academic in India and Scotland. She is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, UK. Her portfolio includes teaching, research and PhD supervision. Dr Macaden has successfully led two dementia education initiatives for pre-registration nurse education: ‘Being Dementia Smart’ (BDS) whilst at the University of Stirling in 2014 and ‘Dementia Enhanced Education to Promote Excellence’ (DEEPE) that supports blended learning at UHI in 2017 – both first of their kind as exclusive dementia curricula integrated within the undergraduate nursing program based on the stages of the dementia journey and the Scottish Promoting Excellence Framework that prepares future nurses at the Enhanced Level of this Framework. She is a recipient of the Churchill Fellowship in 2019 to travel to the USA and Asia (Singapore and India) for Knowledge Exchange and collaboration on dementia education and research. Her academic and research interests and expertise include diabetes, dementia, care of older adults, sensory impairments, multi morbidity, nurse education, pedagogy and global health.
