Intercession (Shafā‘ah) on the Day of Judgement is a well-established concept in Islam, based on the Qur’an and authentic Hadiths. It refers to the permission granted by Allah to certain individuals — especially Prophets, angels, righteous believers, and above all Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — to intercede on behalf of others, asking Allah to forgive them, lessen their punishment, or elevate their status.
🔹 Definition of Shafā‘ah
Shafā‘ah (الشفاعة) linguistically means intercession, mediation, or pleading on behalf of someone else. In the Islamic context, it is a special mercy allowed by Allah on the Day of Judgement.
“Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?”
(Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255)
🔹 Types of Shafā‘ah on the Day of Judgement
1. The Greatest Intercession (Ash-Shafā‘ah al-‘Uẓmā)
✅ Exclusive to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
• Occurs when people are overwhelmed by the terrors of Judgment Day.
• All prophets will decline when asked to intercede.
• Only the Prophet ﷺ will be allowed to intercede with Allah to begin the Reckoning (Hisab).
Hadith (Bukhari & Muslim):
People will go to Adam, Noah, Ibrahim, Musa, and Isa – all will decline, saying “Nafsi, nafsi” (Myself, myself) — until they go to Muhammad ﷺ, who will say “I am for it” and intercede.
2. Intercession for Forgiveness of Major Sinners
✅ The Prophet ﷺ will intercede for those who committed major sins, so long as they died as Muslims.
“My intercession is for those among my Ummah who committed major sins.”
(Tirmidhi, Hasan)
3. Intercession to Remove Believers from Hell
✅ After Allah permits, the Prophet ﷺ and righteous believers will intercede to remove people from Hellfire, if they had even a seed of faith.
Hadith:
“The people of Hell will be brought out through intercession until not one remains with even an atom’s weight of faith.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)

Benefits of Darood o Salam:
Angelic and divine reciprocity
“Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet; so believers, send blessings abundantly.”
— Qur’an 33:56
Ubayy ibn Ka‘b’s profound Hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said that sending all one’s duʿā’ in Salawāt—solely invoking blessings on him—leads to one’s concerns being taken care of and sins forgiven. Ubayy pressed: “Should I let all of my duʿā’ be Salawāt?” He replied: “Then your concerns will be cared for and your sins forgiven.”
Tenfold blessings, forgiveness, and elevation
“Whoever sends blessings on me once, Allah sends blessings upon him ten times, erases ten sins, and raises him ten degrees.”
— Sahih Muslim; Sunan An‑Nasa’i
Closeness to the Prophet ﷺ on the Day of Judgment
“The one who sends the most Salawāt upon me will be the closest to me on the Day of Resurrection.”
— Sunan at-Tirmidhi
Friday’s special virtue
• “Send a great deal of blessings upon me on Friday; they are presented to me.”
• “Whoever sends blessings in the day and night of Friday, Allah blesses him tenfold.”
Salawāt purifies the heart and uplifts the soul
“Send Salawāt upon me, for it is purification (zakāh) for you.”
— Musnad Ahmad
