As organisation technology becomes more complex, through the adoption of cloud services and infrastructure, costs become more opaque and difficult to track. The “pay for what you use” model used by most public cloud providers adds to the difficulty. However, it also presents opportunities for organisations to optimise their costs.

Managing costs effectively is about choices and how organisations empower staff to make them.
In the old paradigm, cost decisions were made once a year, with few opportunities outside of that cycle to make choices, to manage costs. However, through the characteristics of cloud services, On-Demand and Elasticity and Scalability, we can make choices every day or even every hour.

But suppose organisations do not empower their staff to make choices. In that case, they will never be able to adapt to maximise the cost management benefits of cloud services.

In this week’s video, I provide insight into how I was able to put an end to the constant cost growth and how I started to take advantage of the cost savings opportunities.
