Taper Notes

This was a close one. The nearest I've got to being busted out of all the shows I've done.
Festival hall is an old venue (The Beatles played there in the sixties) and for the Pogues I figured the security would be slack and so hadn't really thought through my concealment plan. On arriving at the door I had battery box and PCM just stuffed in my pockets (in fact the PCM was down the back of my pants - in the small of my back sort off) - the mikes were wired up and I'd got wires running down my back etc - and the bloody security guards wanted to do a full pat down !!!

I thought that I was in for an early night back on the bus - but luck was on my side and they let me in !!! I really couldn't believe it - how I got all that gear in I'll never know - I felt the security guard touch the battery box - and that's not something that is normally in someone's back pocket!


Once inside though it got worse - I was on the front row of the side stand - Gestapo Security were EVERYWHERE - I had no chance to reset levels so I went set it at 3.5 hoping that would cover it and just let it go - couldn't even check it during the show as I had security standing next to me the whole time - they wouldn't go away...
But - it looks like I got away with it. The recording captures the raucous nature of a Pogues show really well.

Shane was absolutely shitfaced - off his tree. The rest of the band had to introduce the songs for him - how he then stepped up to the mike and sang I'll never know.

The amount of beer that ended up in the air towards the end had me laughing - thankfully I was spared a dunking (not shure how the mikes would respond to that)

A great show - atmosphere was brilliant.
