Filmed in the 1930s by an unknown American tourist, this 1930s home movie shows a trip to see Cambodia and the temples at Angkor Wat near Siem Riep. The film starts with images of water buffalo and the jungle before showing some local peoples (:55) and their homes. At 1:16 the temple complex is seen from a distance. Crowds of people gather around, some of them eating rice or noodles from bowls (1:51). At 2:12 Angkor is seen in the distance while at 2:14 a series of carved faces are shown. At 2:37 tourists wearing pith helmets descend into the temple. At 2:49 a buddha statue sits placidly. At 3:05 huge tree roots grow over the temples. At 4:02 one is almost entirely obscured by roots. At 4:30 a gate is seen, with many statues lining the entrance. At 4:45 another temple is seen shrouded in trees. At 5:17 a stunning shot of the temple complex with the sun setting behind it. At 5:23 a Cambodian rushes past carrying two loaded baskets. At 5:33 views of the temple walls and then shots from the main complex including shots looking down into courtyards. At 6:07 an iconic shot of the three towers. At 6:13 the pith helmeted tourists walk inside the massive courtyard. At 6:51 a child hides his face from the camera while an adult smiles and looks shy. At 7:48 men listen to a musician. At 8:05 a young boy looks at the camera.
