Five minute history: The Battle of Passchendaele

In the latest episode of my "5 minute history" series I take a look at the Battle of Passchendaele, aka the Third Battle of Ypres.

This campaign was fought between the British and Empire armies and the Germans in Belgium between July and November 1917.

The battle has become a defining moment of the first world war – it is remembered for its horror, the mud and the senseless slaughter of men. But What happened and was it actually a terrible failure?

Let's take a look.
