Had a wonderful birthday brunch here for our dearest friend Jan, last Saturday. Booked for table for 5 on Open Table, they require a credit card to guarantee your reservation. Note that they may charge you $50 per person for last minute cancellations.

Asked for a table outside to enjoy the gorgeous skylight. It was a pretty good winter day to sit outside since it was not too cold. Ivan was our waiter and he took good care of us.

Started off with a round of drinks. I must say that I default to champagne or sparkling wine but once I've tasted the La Vie En Rose ($22), I knew I had to switch to cocktails for the next round. My goodness, what fantastic cocktails! For the second round, my friends did the Absinthe Cocktails and got the Provence Martini ($22) and they all exclaimed that it's very strong. And my friends aren't lightweight! I took a sip out of curiosity and oh boy, it would knock you out of the park! I happily enjoyed Mayan's Punch ($21) with Patron Tequila as it's base. Patron Tequila at 2PM, why not right? That was good! There was an initial issue but I chose to speak to the Beverage Manager and she took care of it for me.

As for the food, I'd say they were pretty good. We shared Moules Marinieres for starter and by the way, their complimentary baguette was actually warmed up. That or it was freshly baked! Either way this was a win. They don't even do this in France, so enjoy the warm baguette with butter. The sauce of the moules marinieres dish was perfect for dipping the bread. You know it's the best way to eat it. For main, my friends had Eggs Norwegian ($29, heard this was delicious!) and Steak and Eggs ($44 each, good!) while I went for Steak Frites ($52) and Luis went for the Wagyu Cheeseburger ($39). I asked for the steak to be cooked Medium knowing how French restaurants typically cook it Medium Rare and it actually came back between Medium Rare and Medium. Worked well for me. The Herb butter that came with it elevated the dish but I love Au Poivre sauce for steak and they indulged me on this request. Luis preferred the burger from Pastis vs. the Wagyu Burger here. I will say that the truffle dijonnaise was so good and fries went perfectly with it. For dessert we got the Boucherie Creme Brulee ($16) and Paris-Brest ($16). Both were good but I'd prefer the former over the latter.

Overall, one of the much better French Restaurants here in NYC. It's not by any means cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for. If you want an amazing time with fantastic food, cocktails, and service and not conscious about the budget, this is a good place. Spent $570 + 20% gratuity and then headed over to our favorite bar after. Looking forward to coming back on another special occasion! Merci La Grande Boucherie!
