STORYLINE:
Israel's Iron Dome air defense system intercepted rockets launched from Lebanon into Israel late Monday.

Rockets fired from Lebanon are in response to hundreds of airstrikes Israel launched during the day in southern and eastern Lebanon.

Israel's airstrikes killed more than 270 Lebanese in the deadliest barrage since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war as the Israeli military warned residents in southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate their homes ahead of a widening air campaign against Hezbollah.

The Israeli military said it hit more than 800 targets Monday linked to Hezbollah weapons sites. It said it was expanding the operation to include areas of the Bekaa Valley, along Lebanon’s eastern border.

Thousands of people fled southern Lebanon, jamming the main highway to Beirut. More than 1,000 other people were injured in the strikes, the Health Ministry said.
