Malayamarutam is a wonderful morning raga. It is the Janya raga derived from the 16th Melakarta Chakravakam. It is the madhyama varjya shadava shadava raga. Having six swaras except madhyamam.

There are few Krithis like Manasa yetulothune of Thyagaraja and cine orchestra songs also.

When we talk about malayamarutham ragam, immediately that flashes our mind is Valaji ragam. Both ragas are derived ragas of Chakravakam.

Malayamarutam is a shadava shadava ragam and Valaji is an audava audava ragam.
Madhyadam is not there in both the ragas and Rishabam is added in Malayamarutam!

Valaji ragam is famous in Hindusthani music and known as Kalavati!

Santatamu ninne and Kaividamaattaan kanaka sabesan are some popular songs in this raga and many viruthams, slokas and dance songs are also there in this ragam.
