Prop Making | Hard Coating Foam Props With Epoxy | Sculpted Styrofoam Dirt & Snow Mound Landscapes

Here is a styrofoam sculpting project we worked on. We used EpoxAmite Smooth-On laminating epoxy for hard coating our polystyrene foam carved props. We needed some ground covering and landscape decoration for a miniature golf course called Sac Mini Golf located in old town Sacramento. We decided to design and fabricate all the prop decor by carving dirt and snow mounds to line the floors for a few scenes. Each needing to be hard coated we needed to use a product that was easy to use and fairly fast but most important protecting the foam by making it rigid and able to be touched by many. We make a small desert scene and a Donner Party snow scene complete with vegetation, rocks, & prop trees. The sets also include several other diy prop decorations and furniture like trunks, stoves, bed posts, luggage, camping sites with tents, fireplace, cookware, animal furs, etc. These foam mounds were a lot of fun to make.
