Charles Wayne Ashley, 82, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 22, 2023. He was born in Itawamaba County MS. to Dolphus and Bernice Sides Ashley. He retired from Sunshine Mills in Red Bay, AL. where he worked as a truck driver. His trucker friends called him “Bargain Man”. Charles was very active so retirement didn’t last long and he followed his passion for driving and went back to work for Drive-Away for Tiffin Motor Homes. He never met a stranger and could talk for hours. He loved his westerns, listening to country music, especially Reba McEntire, and working in his yard. Charles was a member of Salem Baptist Church. Charles would take up money at the cemetery in the heat of the summer to help his church. Charles was widely known and loved for his generosity and eagerness to help and for his loving heart. Charles was known by his immediate family as PaPa and Daddy. He was also a true and loyal friend and family member who will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 24, 1:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, Golden, MS.. Bro. Roger Wood and Bro. Kerry Peden will be officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife – Sue Ashley, His children-Jeff Ashley (Kathy), Terry Ashley, Lisa McCollum (Wayne), Deena Phillips (Mick), Chris Ashley (Dianna), His grandchildren- Ashley (Aaron), Whitley, Nicole (Shawn), Hunter, Myles, Destyn, Gage, Connor, Caidence and Brock, His great-grandchildren- Amber, Kinsley, Colton, Cooper, Lily Claire, Hudson, His sister- Nell Anderson and a brother- Paul Ashley.
Pallbearers will be Jack Elliott, Billy Joe Bolton, Leland Timmons, Hunter White, Bobby Puckett, Gage Ashley.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mackey Hargett, Randy Elliott, Connor Rogers.
Visitation will be Monday, April 24, 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, Golden, MS.
