Varnishes for sealing alcohol ink art

During the past year we faced a lot of problems due to our favorite varnishes running out of stock, so I had to find substitutes. We have already used Brustro Gloss Varnish, Winsor and Newton Gloss Varnish and Krylon Brand Varnishes. This video shows you other brands like Sinnellier, Liquitex, Lefranc Bourgeois, Pebeo, Rustoleum, and Molotow.

Hope the video helps you in finding some more options for varnishes. The last one doesn’t work as I could see a significant change in the color of gold ink.

Please note: I have just done the testing with these varnishes and so far do not see any significant change in the appearance of the paintings. Each varnish gives a slightly different result in terms of glossy-ness. But to make sure that they work for your inks/surface/environment/other products used – please test the varnish yourself on a sample artwork before spraying on a completed piece. Always varnish your work after it has dried for at least 2 days.
