Exclusive Preview: Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Set for 3-Month Rollout

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on September 1, 2024, that the Vande Bharat Sleeper Coaches will begin passenger operations within three months. Following an inspection at the BEML factory in Bengaluru, Vaishnaw revealed that the manufacturing of these sleeper coaches has been completed and the rollout is imminent. The new sleeper version, designed with middle-class affordability in mind, will be priced similarly to the Rajdhani Express.

Vaishnaw highlighted that the Vande Bharat Sleeper Coaches are the latest addition to the Vande Bharat series, which has already seen success with the chair-car version. He emphasized that these new trains incorporate modern technology, enhanced safety features, and special facilities for loco pilots and service staff. The design process was complex, reflecting India’s aspirations under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

The minister also assured that the fare for these coaches would be affordable, aligning with the needs of middle-class travelers. He mentioned that the train’s speed potential is up to 200 kmph, making it one of the most advanced sleeper trains in the world.

This development is part of the Railways' broader plan to introduce 400 Vande Bharat trains with different technologies to meet India’s growing demand for modern and efficient rail travel.
