NRA Gun of the Week: Glock G44

Glock Inc. added a plinker to its lineup of once center-fire-only pistols and built on a Gen 5 G19-size polymer frame. This newest member of the G-series family is the G44, and is a .22-cal. pistol chambered for the ubiquitous .22 Long Rifle (LR) rimfire cartridge.

The G44 features a polymer-metal hybrid slide fitted with a 4.02” Glock Marksman Barrel. Given the nature of rimfire ammunition and bullets, Glock had to switch up its game to provide a barrel capable of flawless function combined with considerable accuracy of firing the non-jacketed lead bullets indicative of .22 LR ammunition.

The G44’s overall weight tips the scale at 12.6 ozs. (empty) and commands an overall width of 1.26." What you get with Glock’s latest addition is a direct-blowback semi-automatic pistol built by a company who knows the end user and what is preferred. Glock includes an ambidextrous slide stop lever, front and rear slide serrations, a reversible magazine catch and interchangeable backstraps. Also included with the G44 is a 10-round detachable box magazine with spring-compression tabs designed to help users load cartridges.

The gun’s slide is topped with user-adjustable sights in a configuration typical to Glock—white-outlined rear notch and post front containing a single white dot. For safeties, Glock includes a trigger safety, firing pin safety and a drop safety. Field strip procedure of the G44 is through typical Glock fashion and requires a pull of the company’s well-regarded Safe-Action trigger to remove the slide.
