France has revealed that the third attacker in the Bataclan music hall siege was a Frenchman who visited Syria. French police have identified the man as Foued Mohamed Aggad, a 23-year-old from Strasbourg.

AFP reports that Aggad left Strasbourg with a group of about 10 jihadis on December 17, 2013. From Frankfurt they boarded a plane to the Turkish city of Antalya, then made their way to Syria.

Seven of the group were arrested in the spring of last year upon their return to France, while Aggad remained in Syria. Aggad’s older brother, 25-year-old Karim, is currently in detention in France after visiting Syria between December 2013 and March 2014

Le Parisien reports that Aggad’s mother had regular news from his son and sent him money to allow him to leave Syria.

Ninety people died in the attack on the Bataclan theater on Nov. 13, as did Aggad and the two other attackers. Aggad’s fellow assailants, Samy Amimour and Ismail Omar Mostefai, were also French. A total of 130 people were killed that night in the Paris attacks.
