Handgames Trails EP#2 | Whatì

A group of Dene hand game players from Fort Liard, Fort Nelson, and Fort Providence travel north to the Tłı̨chǫ community of Whatì, NT for a men's traditional hand game event in June 2024.

Situated on the shores of Lac La Martre, Whatì is a tight-knit community, with a full-hearted investment in Dene culture.

The annual Charlie Zoe Nitsiza Handgame event draws people from across Denendeh, and in 2024, it saw the largest participation in event history with 51 teams registered.

The 'Handgame Trails' series offers viewers an authentic view into the world of traditional dene handgames, as a means to showcase its impact on dene communities far and wide.
