Dead Mall UK | LONDON Kings Mall Hammersmith

With a £5Million improvement investment by the new owners, the Kings Mall in Hammersmith still seems to have trouble getting and retaining retailers inside the Shopping Centre. Thou outside units are all fully occupied but inside standalone units are around 55% vacant.

How and why has the Feast Canteen failed and why are retailers not opening? My theory is that The Kings Mall is facing the wrong direction with no entrance onto Lyric Square and Hammersmith Broadway has far too much competition with places to eat.

The Feast Canteen closing just seven months after opening is a significant blow to the new owners getting a return on their investment. Kings Mall Anchors include Primark and Sainsbury’s but they are close to the entrance on King Street and the units connecting the entrances are generally low footfall shops.

On early mock-up pictures it looked as if a decent chain restaurant was going to open in the new Feast Canteen but instead it turned out to be just a dull food court. One by one the little units closed and since September the furniture was removed and has been completely closed.

There is now, nowhere to eat inside here, although plenty on the outer units such as Pat Val (Patisserie Valerie) Wasabi and Costa. If a restaurant opened in here (or if the Burger King reopened that closed down in the former food court) then more prominent shops will open.
