Onboard my first trans-pacific flight and first time flying longhaul with Qantas! This video features every stage of the flight from Brisbane to LA as well as a look at the product in economy onboard Qantas' longhaul flights. Plus a few extras!
This was flight QF55 which is the second flight of the day operated by Qantas from Brisbane to Los Angeles. Lucky for me I had a front row bulkhead seat and the row to myself. Seat 40A which is the first row of economy on Qantas' 787's.
Lucky for me for my first longhaul flight with Qantas I was on the special "Yam Dreaming" livery too.
The flight was pushed back from its original departure time by 2 hours due to the late arrival of the aircraft from Hong Kong. However they had contacted us beforehand to inform us (which was great!) so we knew and I could continue planespotting at Brisbane for a little longer. Once onboard fantastic crew, lovely cabin layout, mood lighting and plenty of room at the front row as well. An impressive IFE System with endless choice of TV Shows and movies to choose from to keep me well entertained during the 13 hour flight across the date line and over the pacific.
Not long into the flight a member of crew asked if I minded if another passenger moved to the isle seat as he was tall and struggling in the middle. Of course I didn't mind and with that she came back to me with a glass of champagne, an amenity kit from first and some pyjamas to say thank you. Brilliant! So I include whats in the amenity kit and a look at the PJ's in the video. Food was good, service was good and with champagne flowing we headed out into the pacific. Unfortunately during the night the windows had been dimmed and locked by the crew. Obviously on the Boeing 787 the famous "dimming" windows can actually be controlled by the crew. So they were all blacked out and unfortunately for me locked. I did ask if I could get mine unlocked in order to film the sunrise but they said they were unable (or didn't know how) to just unlock the 1 window. So I left it. Once the sun was up, I was served with more food before beginning the descent back in time into LA.
Across the date line meaning I landed in LA 5 hours or so before leaving Brisbane on the same day! February 23rd. So I saw the sunset on February 23rd twice, once in Brisbane and again in LA. A little bit confusing and definitely a battle with the jetlag to get my head round.

FLIGHT DETAILS:
Airline: Qantas
Aircraft: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Reg: VH-ZND "Yam Dreaming"
Seat: 40A, Economy.
Departure Runway: 19L
Arrival Runway: 24R
Flight Time: 12 hours 50 mins (approx)
Flight Number: QF55
Date: Feb 23rd 2019.

Look out for the hollywood sign on approach into LA.
Despite the delay and the dimmed windows a good flight! Would highly recommend Qantas for longhaul travel and would be interested to see what the future holds for these 787's as they embark on their mission to bring regular direct flights from Sydney to London.

As with all my Full Flight videos, take it with a pinch of salt. This is not a 13 hour video of darkness. By full flight I mean it includes every stage of the flight & by review I simply mean a look at my experience onboard and look at the product offered to me on this particular flight.

Enjoy the video & thanks for watching!
