This video is how I have backlapped my Rolux reel mower for the last 2 years. My goal here is to open up my process to others who have never done this before as a DIY how-to. An introduction on the care of your reel mower. You will get better with time at doing this, and learn more as you go. Don't expect to make this perfect the first go around. These are precision machines (just like any reel mower), and do require care on your end.

I cannot stress this enough- listen to your grass. If it is shredding, turning white/yellow on the tips, etc- it is time to check the cut or backlap. I do not check my reel every time I cut, nor do I stress out if it isn't cutting the thinnest paper on the planet after each mow. It's all good man.

The most important thing (outside of cutting grass), you do not want your reel too tight- especially too tight on one side or the other. If you cannot hone it in to cut printer paper, that is ok. You'll get there. It takes practice. Using a playing card (my favorite is "draw 4" UNO card, everyone hates that one) or something like an index card will let you know if it is sharp and cutting grass. It will cut. I promise.
