Founded by Elon Musk in 2016, Neuralink is working on brain implants designed to help people interact with technology using their thoughts. The implants, smaller than a coin, could potentially treat serious neurological conditions and eventually enable people to control devices or even restore lost functions.

The funding comes just as the company moves deeper into human testing. After getting FDA approval last year, Neuralink’s first trial patient successfully used the implant to move a computer cursor with his mind. The company recently began testing its second patient—Alex, a man with a spinal cord injury—who’s also showing promising results.

With this new capital, Neuralink is expected to ramp up clinical trials, grow its team, and improve manufacturing as it pushes toward making this tech available on a wider scale.
