Welcome to another episode of Stoned Storytime with Lynn Cole, where I talk about the story behind the song, and how we got here! If you're new here, hi, I'm Lynn Cole. I'm a conventional songwriter, experimental artist, and systems engineer that does AI the hard way against my handwritten lyrics.

That's where all these songs come from. I use a variety of tools, many conventional, to produce fun songs with state of the art technology that, hopefully, might be worth listening to, and prove out a more sophisticated workflow for the next generation of artists.

Now, Heart of The Action. It's another anthemic country love song, this time, with some nice R&B undertones, which I've been doing a lot more of lately. I'm truly enjoying the sound of it. That'll change. I have phases and moods, I'm very moody, at least as an artist.

I've just written six love songs in a row, and if we're being honest, I'm a little tired of writing love songs at the moment, but it's all that seems to be coming out of me lately. But if I said I didn't like writing love songs, I would be lying.

Love songs are fun. Especially needy codependent love songs packed full of things no sane person would say to anyone in real life.

The technicals of this one are interesting. I tried doing this one the regular way, but the AI wasn't composing a melody complicated enough to handle the lyrics.

So I did what I always do when that happens (it happens frequently), and I pulled out my handy little keyboard. And I wrote a quick melody using Hookpad. Then I did some simple mastering, and fed it into Stable Audio, which game me a more finished sounding clip with the same chord progressions.

And from there, fed the stable audio clip it into Udio, working backwards from the end. Why? Because I can, shhhhh.....

Anyway, then I got one verse and one chorus out of the machine, and it was nice and twisty enough. But I didn't have a second verse or outro written yet. So I put the project down for five days, telling myself, "This is too fucking easy." And it is. People tell me I have a weird idea what the word "easy" means.

Then for another couple days, I'm like, "sure fine whatever, maybe" and I kept writing down a couple lines here and there for it. When I was done, without realizing it, I had written three verses. But they were all pretty much the same thought, so it made sense to consolidate them into one verse.

I put off doing that for a couple of days. Then, last night, when I was feeling the moment pretty intensely, I decided to spend all night doing it.

When I was passing it through, the machine had a couple of incredibly interesting (for technical reasons) improv hallucinations, which I decided to leave in because I love the sound of them. The prompt I used here was the same one I used for Change Your Mind, which has a similar hallucination in it.

Then I came within moments of releasing the track, and realized

1. The arrangement was flat and boring
2. There was a phrase in the chorus that annoyed the heck out of me.

So this morning, I threw everything else away, and did the whole process again, to get a better arrangement and revise my lyrics.

And that's what this is!
