Описание к видео Why 80% of Artist Fail

Becoming a successful artist only begins with knowing why 80% of Artist fail. We certainly don't need to focus on the negative in order to achieve success, but being aware of habits that cause most Artist to fail is important because we can then stop doing what leads us to doom.

#1 - The first area I want to address is relying for your work to blow up… Can your work blow up, in this day and age, yep you bet ya! Most certainly you can blow up overnight, and your skills can take you to different heights, but don’t rely on your work to speak for itself. Instead of relying on Viral content, simple business practice could vastly set you apart when it comes to being an artist for a living. Putting yourself out there is just the start of marketing.

#2 - Under Valuing Your Work" False humility is a common mindset among artists. Art in most cases is an attribute of vulnerable expression and it can hurt us when people don’t like it or they don’t respond to it. This doesn’t mean you’re a bad artist, but that you haven’t found your audience. What I mean by false humility has to do with a reference C.S. Lewis made “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less”...

I believe a lot of artists would rather enjoy the emotional reciprocation of people gladly welcoming their art and in most cases value that more than compensation. Instead of stating this, will they play the under value card, speaking as though they believe they are not worth a higher amount. When in reality the price of creating an emotional connection towards art is more valuable than a service rate. So we as artists wait for that validation before charging what we’re worth, and trade a living for validation. Real humility in this case would be to own the reality that you have to make a living, that you can confidently deliver a service that ministers to your client well and remain humble because art is not about you. Though it’s a fact you have the ability to dig deep to connect with people for people sake. If you don’t love yourself in a healthy way you can’t love your neighbor in a healthy way. So delivering value, educating and closing your clients are good business practices to learn.

#3 - Distractions. Like every human, artist get distracted maybe even more than regular people. Why? As artists we create from the deep dwelling places of our being, whether that be from love, or pain, inspiration, or hope, triumph or failure. This is why art speaks to so many people and why I believe so many people are influenced by social media to create art.

But as an artist you have to be consistent, regardless if you are enjoying how your piece is turning out. The discipline of consistently creating and moving forward on current pieces is what helps you overcome this.

#4 - No goals. Without vision the people perish. God’s word doesn’t return void and so many artist are so “free spirited” they expect things to just take off. Like I said at the beginning of this video; you can’t rely on your work to blow up. Create a plan on where you want to go and if you trust God He will direct your steps: Some get deals right away because their style is in demand, there in the right place at the right time, or simply because they know the right people. This is literally every one in a million. If you’re a graphic designer, film maker, illustrator and want to work for an agency, put together a proper portfolio and book meetings to get your work in front of the right people. If you want to freelance then begin scouting companies, clients that might benefit from your services. Set a proper rate, not below your worth and deliver quality on every project without taking on too much. Like painters if you are trying to get into a gallery or get behind a label, start putting yourself in situations where you can meet those people, you’ll learn who you need to talk to in order to set up the right meetings. Even setting up social accounts and creating a following is proof people enjoy your work, not for vanity sake, but as social proof for the galleries and labels.

So it’s so important to look at as many angles as possible. Every situation is unique, and not all artist are in the same position to move up. I hope this helps you see where you’re at and can take some actions to get a little closer to your goals. Just know that clarity will come with experience, the longer you are in your profession the better you will understand the measures needed to move forward. And in the process ,please don’t lose sight of Jesus, the goal achieving is fun and when things start moving it's exciting but what’s it’s worth for a man to gain the world but to lose his soul?
