Looking forward, we can see where the economy is headed: technology, creativity, entrepreneurialism. In particular, we know that computing skills are the most sought-after in the U.S. job market, with demand growing 3X the national average. We also know that computing jobs pay twice that of the average private sector job.

However, today there are over 500,000 unfilled computing jobs in the United States, and only 40,000 new computer science graduates to fill them. According to a report from Girls Who Code recently published with Accenture, women make up only 24 percent of the computing workforce. This skills gap in computing represents an incredible economic opportunity for Americans and a critical economic imperative for America; and the growing gender gap in computer science demands special focus on educating more girls to pursue computer science and equipping more schools to teach them.
