While traveling from Sambalpur to Kolkata via the Kolkata–Surat Highway (NH49), we experienced a shocking and dangerous incident. The journey began smoothly, with the road appearing to be in decent condition except for a few uneven patches. We were driving at an average speed of around 85 km/h, which is within the normal speed limit.

However, without any prior warning, the road suddenly broke apart, causing the car to go out of control. There were no signboards indicating a diversion, road damage, or any ongoing construction — nothing at all to alert drivers of the danger ahead.

To make matters worse, the area was a dense jungle stretch, completely dark on both sides of the road. The location was approximately 9–10 km before Jashipur (Odisha) — a particularly dangerous and poorly maintained section of the highway.

Both the driver and passenger airbags deployed instantly, and thankfully, the two people in the car escaped safely without any injuries.

This video serves as a reminder of how unpredictable and unsafe some road conditions can be, especially at night. My humble request to the government and concerned authorities is to repair such damaged stretches of national highways — or at least install proper warning and diversion signs — to prevent serious accidents in the future.
