“It’s Friday. Time for another weekly update. This week, I spoke at the Small Business Administration’s 70th Anniversary Celebration where my friends Jorge and Deana Sanabria’s business, Expoquip, was recognized as an SBA Legacy Business. I also helped cut the ribbon at the newly expanded Medic Regional Blood Center’s location in Farragut and helped them celebrate their 65th anniversary. It was great to see so many folks who had come for the ribbon cutting stick around to give blood.

Medic has a unique program that if you give one donation a year and you or one of your IRS dependent needs blood, the processing costs for that blood are waived for that year. But more importantly, when you give blood, you might be saving a life. So please give if you are able. I also facilitated the Teen Panel at the Boys & Girls Clubs Tennessee Area Council luncheon, dropped by First Responder Appreciation Day at Knox Horizon Complete Auto Care, and attended the ribbon-cutting for Zion’s Ranch for Men, a project of Angelic Ministries.

Tonight, I am going to flip the coin as the Gibbs High School football Eagles take on Halls in their first game at the new Ernest Whited Whited Stadium. Tomorrow, I’ll be at the Gibbs Ruritan Park for a memorial event in honor of U.S. Army Staff Sargeant Ryan Knauss, who lost his life supporting noncombatant evacuation operations in the withdrawal from Afghanistan. The event kicks off at 10am and includes a motorcycle ride. Sure would like to see you there.

Also, a reminder, we will begin removing green waste caused by the August 7th tornado this coming Tuesday, August 29th. Crews will only pass by one time for brush pickup and can only remove trees, branches, and brush from public rights-of-way. Also, the debris must be less than 6 feet in length, and only residential properties are eligible.

For specific inquiries or to request green waste pickup, please call Knox County Engineering and Public Works at 865-215-5800. Until next Friday, I hope everyone has a great week.”
