Three outlaws, one disguising himself as an Army officer, trick a young man into riding with them under the promise of finding his father, while secretly plotting a far darker fate. Elsewhere, a determined ally joins forces with an aging prospector to track their trail. Both searches lead to a town seized by an outlaw gang that has reduced its citizens to near slavery. Tension explodes when a deranged gunman, seeking revenge for his brother’s death, unleashes gunfire at a hotel on nothing more than a rumor. Though the attack stems from a cruel prank, the gunman believes a saloon hostess holds the key to his target’s whereabouts. As the trackers arrive, the town’s sheriff and the woman each work behind the scenes to stop a gunfight that could destroy what little order remains.
