This video will discuss the different types of Muay Thai heavy bag options that can be used when training. In the beginning, it is often difficult to know which type of Muay Thai heavy bag is best as there are so many different brands, types, shapes and sizes on the market.

This can leave a new Muay Thai student feeling overwhelmed.

Ben will go through the 3 most common types of Muay Thai heavy bags in this video, highlighting the benefits and drawbacks of each.

Here are the types of bags that will be covered:

1) Ideal for Muay Thai (light and long)

A great beginner bag, especially for those looking to train the multiple weapons employed in Muay Thai. You'll be able to practise a wide variety of leg kicks, punching combinations, knees and elbows. However, it is worth noting that due to how light the bag is, you'll struggle to put together heavy combinations (due to the bag's lack of ability to absorb power without significant movement), therefore you must adapt your style to the bag.

2) Standard Boxing (light and short)

A solid choice if your primary concern is to work on your boxing. This bag, unfortunately, doesn't allow for low kick practise unless you bring it down and rest it on something to support it. Similar to the previous bag, due to the weight of the bag you'll likely find it not possible to throw heavy combinations.

3) Ben's favourite (heavy and long)

The Fairtex heavy bag is no joke. It can absorb power punches and has the length that allows you to unleash all of your moves on it. Although it is Ben's top pick, it isn't necessarily the best option for a home gym. This is predominantly due to how big and heavy it is (you don't want to tear up your ceiling or crash through some walls!).
