South-West duo, Otis North (Yallingup) and Bronte Macaulay (Gracetown) have secured their positions into the upcoming World Surf League (WSL) Western Australia Margaret River Pro, after mastering challenging conditions and triumphing at the Think Mental Health WA Trials, held in 6-8 feet waves at Surfers Point, Margaret River.

Amidst gusty winds and a building swell, Surfers Point played host to a battle of epic proportions, with a field of 24 surfers (12 male and 12 female), showcasing their skills before an electrified crowd of wave enthusiasts.

2023 Under-18 Boys State Champion Otis North displayed remarkable tenacity, braving the elements to secure his maiden Championship Tour event appearance after a marathon day of surfing. An awe-inspiring performance saw North surf four times to claim victory in the men's division, edging out Margaret River's Finn Cox in a thrilling final.

Former Championship Tour surfer Bronte Macaulay (Gracetown), claimed her second consecutive Think Mental Health WA Trials victory and will head into the Margaret River Pro with years of experience under her belt.

Macaulay dropped two seven-point plus rides on her way to a combined total of 15.00, finishing ahead of rising star Willow Hardy (Margaret River), on 13.23 (from a possible 20). The two goofy footers went wave for wave and score for score in an exciting final, with Macaulay's superior wave selection and maneuver placement proving the difference in the end.

The Think Mental Health WA Trials offer local surfers an unparalleled opportunity to complete amongst the world's best on home soil. North and Macaulay will join Jack Robinson (Margaret River) and Jacob Willcox (Margaret River), making a total of four West Australian's who will compete in the Margaret River Pro this year.

The Western Australia Margaret River Pro, the fifth event on the 2024 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), promises to deliver thrilling action from the 11th through to the 21st of April.
