You may believe vaccination was invented in 1796 by Edward Jenner.
But decades earlier, India practiced a method now known as Variolation.
The principle was simple — and deeply scientific.
A tiny, controlled exposure to the disease
teaches the body how to defend itself.
I collected dried material from smallpox lesions, preserved it carefully,
and during the spring season, introduced a very small amount into the skin of a healthy person using a fine needle.
The patient developed mild fever, a few pustules —
and then recovered.
When epidemics later spread,
that person remained protected.
In 1767, British physician J. Z. Holwell documented this Indian method
and sent detailed letters to medical institutions in Europe.
Later, Jenner refined the same principle
into a safer and standardized vaccine.
India did not invent the modern vaccine —
but it understood the science of immunity long before the word existed.
This is not myth.
This is forgotten medical history.
