Описание к видео Doctor explains how to take LOSARTAN (aka Cozaar/Lozol) | Doses, side effects & more

In this video, Doctor O'Donovan explains key things you need to know about losartan potassium – a medication that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and help protect the kidneys in people with diabetes.

Other names for losartan include Cozaar and Lozol.

What is losartan?

Losartan, sold under the brand name Cozaar among others, is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure and protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes. It can also be prescribed for heart failure and to lower the risk of stroke in certain patients.

What are some side effects of losartan?

The most common side effects of losartan include dizziness, fatigue, and upper respiratory infections. These usually improve after a few days. As always, read the information leaflet before taking this medication.

Does losartan cause weight gain?

Weight gain is not a common side effect of losartan. However, if you notice significant changes in your weight while taking losartan, it’s best to consult your doctor.

How does losartan work?

Losartan is a type of medicine called an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily, which lowers blood pressure. It blocks the action of a natural substance called angiotensin II that tightens blood vessels, leading to lower blood pressure and reduced strain on the heart. In people with diabetes, this helps protect the kidneys from damage.

Can I drink alcohol with losartan?

It’s best to limit alcohol while taking losartan. Drinking alcohol can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects of losartan, potentially causing dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting. If you experience these symptoms, it’s a good idea to avoid alcohol while on this medication.
