Four-year-long celebration of Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary

KOLKATA 31 DEC: The Ramakrishna Math and Mission will begin a four-year-long celebration to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and carry out various projects in several states to commemorate the occasion. The actual 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is in the year 2014.
Talking to newsmen at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Gol Park, Swami Prabhananada Maharaj, general secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Mission said that they have received Central funds worth Rs 100 crore with which the Mission is planning to carry out some integrated child development project along with projects for empowerment of women.
He also mentioned that the projects, namely Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa, which aims for all round development of children between the age group 6-12, the Vivekananda Swasthya Pari Seva Prakalpa which aims at the improvement of children's health by eliminating malnutrition, the Sarada Pallivikas Prakalpa which aims at self empowerment of women and the Akhandananda Poverty Alleviation Project which aims at alleviating poverty.
Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh will formally inaugurate the projects on 12 January at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
The Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa will be carried out in 150 places in India.
The preliminary task of selecting the places has now begun and the Mission is planning to start the work soon, he maintained. The project will be carried out by the next four years.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the organisation is also organising various cultural programmes. They will also publish the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda in all major languages and some minor languages. Plans are also in place to distribute books to various libraries on the complete works of Swami Vivekananda. Moreover, national and international seminars on Swamiji's contribution to Indian and international cultures will be held in various places. They are also planning to produce films on Swami Vivekananda and circulate it among various libraries.
