There is a scientific reason behind placing rock sugar under the tongue. Do you know that? If we swallow any medicine, it goes into the stomach and starts to digest. The digested medicine then goes to the liver and metabolizes there. This metobolized medicine will mix with blood. We call this First-Pass Mechanism. But as the medicine travels to the stomach, then the liver, then the blood, it takes more time to work and also we can't get 100% of the medicine. But in some cases if we place a medicine under our tongue, it will be dissolved and absorbed by the blood vessels under the tongue and directly goes to the heart, then mixed with blood.
