Mitered Dovetail Corner - Joint of the Week

A Mitered Dovetail Corner is this week’s Woodworking Joint of the Week. It is made from lacewood and quilted maple. The two side are dovetailed using to sets of tails and then cut at a 45 degree bevel. I had so much fun making this and really like the way it looks. I first saw this at the William Ng School of Woodworking in Anaheim and fell in love. I wanted to reproduce it and it came out great. It isn’t as strong as most dovetailed joinery but it is strong enough for a jewelry box for sure. If I had to do it again I would probably add some inlay and make the tails a little shorter. I did smash my finger with my mallet and then hurry the joining of the joinery hahaha, which let to a little crack. Next time I will take a little more time and make sure the tails fit together.
