With an aim to match up the growing air superiority, India is working towards the development of 5+ generation medium weight fighter AMCA(Advance Medium Combat Aircraft).

The AMCA is going to be a 5th generation fighter with 6th generation technology. It will be a single-seat, twin-engine, stealth all-weather multi-role fighter aircraft integrated with direct energy weapons and will have super-cruise ability. It is also planned to have both manned and unmanned operational capability.

We have already made a detailed video on the features and specification for AMCA and the link for the same can be found in description section. In today's video we are going to discuss on the three major development in this program. First one is towards its formal approval, second one regarding its prototype and third one is related to its production.

The AMCA is being developed by HAL & DRDO and going further the project will have private participation as well, under the framework of a special purpose vehicle. In 2018, $60 million was allotted for prototype design and R&D. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) are meanwhile moving swiftly on the development of the advanced medium combat aircraft (AMCA) and if all goes are per plan, the first flight of AMCA can be expected to begin between 2025-2026. It will be in full production by 2029.

With IAF showing interest in AMCA program it is expected to get formal approval for AMCA by first half of 2021. Once the AMCA is formally approved, it might take another 6 months to roll-out its first prototype of AMCA.

As per DRDO, AMCA is going to integrate all the advance future weapon technologies such as Astra BVR missiles, stealthy design, Direct Energy Weapons, Advanced AESA radars, electronic warfare suite, network centric warfare and enhanced 360 degree view for situational awareness.

Talking about its production, at present only DRDO and HAL is involved, however talks are in progress in shortlisting the private players to fast track its delivery. The fabrication of parts for AMCA is going to take place in Nasik based plant. The prototype integration and other development will take place in Bangalore along with CABS(Center for airborne system). IAF will work closely on this program right from beginning to ensure their requirements are meet from very early stage and avoiding the redesigning at later stage.

DRDO is also confident on integrating the 6th generation weapons such as Direct Energy weapons and Swarm drones with AMCA. The anti-drone system will make use of the direct energy weapons which has already been demonstrated by DRDO. DRDO is also working on developing high power laser which can be used to kill other targets apart from drones and expecting to demonstrate its capability by the end of the year. The laser based direct energy weapon has multitude of application in airforce, navy and army. It can even be used in border protection. DRDO has also plans to demonstrate the SWARN drone technologies by the end of the this year.
