Sir Keir Starmer has acknowledged that many in Britain find it “hard to think about the future” as a poll shows Labour falling behind the Tories on the economy.

In a New Year’s Day message, the prime minister admitted that 2025 would have to be a “year of rebuilding” to restore prosperity, repair public services and reverse his own sliding poll ratings.
