Polruan Walk – A Quiet Wander Through Cornwall’s Riverside Stronghold

A peaceful, atmospheric stroll through Polruan, the compact Cornish village perched at the mouth of the River Fowey. With its tight-knit lanes, steep hillside cottages, and sweeping estuary views, this walk captures the softer rhythms of one of Cornwall’s most characterful waterside communities.

🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore
Polruan grew up as a boat-building and maritime village, and that heritage is everywhere — from the slipways tucked between old houses to the sound of rigging chiming in the breeze. Its narrow lanes are classic Cornish: slate roofs, whitewashed walls, and secret footpaths weaving sharply up and down the hillside. As you wander, glimpses of the river open between cottages, each one revealing a postcard view of Fowey across the water.

Perched on the headland are the remains of Polruan Blockhouse, a 14th-century fort built to guard the harbour alongside its counterpart in Fowey. Once part of a defensive chain that fired chains across the river mouth to stop enemy ships, it now stands in quiet ruin — a perfect vantage point for watching boats drift through the estuary.

The village centre offers a slower charm: traditional inns, fishing corners, and tiny alleyways shaped by centuries of sea winds. Polruan’s working harbour still launches small craft and ferries, keeping the village connected despite its tucked-away feel.

Throughout the walk, you’re never far from water, stone, and history — the trio that defines Polruan. It’s a place where time softens, where river light flickers off old windows, and where the past feels very close underfoot. A calm, scenic wander through one of Cornwall’s most quietly evocative villages.

🖥️ Editing
I use DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 for basic colour correction, mainly to tone down overexposed skies. The videos go straight from camera to YouTube—no cuts, no talking, no fancy business. Just walking.
