RIP Hickstead, Canadian Legend. On November 6 of 2011, 15 year old Dutch Warmblood, Hickstead had collapsed while competing in Verona CSI in Italyl the happenings of his death are not yet determined. Eric Lamaze and Hickstead had quite a run, the lengendary show jumper won individual gold and team silver in the Olympic games in 2008 in Hong Kong. They also won individual bronze at the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games, where after he performed in the final four he was also named Best Horse. Hickstead also won numerous grand prizs such as ones in Aachen, Rome and La Baule, also won the CN Spruce Meadows Masters twice.

"We finished our round, I circled and was leaving the ring, and he collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack, it is the most tragic thing that has ever happened. We had him until he was 15, and we had a great time together. He was the best horse in the world. We are all devastated." -Eric Lamaze

Hickstead was an amazing athelete and Eric Lamaze with Hickstead was the perfect duo, both were underdogs that people never thought would be show jumping legends, Eric Lamaze had a different childhood than most he lived in a troubled childhood with his grandmother and by the age of 15 he had dropped out of school and then started working in the horse industry with some of the top trainers, Hickstead was also an unlikely champion many people thought that the stallion was too small the be a top show jumper. Together they were unbeatable, I remember sitting in my living room at age 12 and watching Hickstead and Eric Lamaze win gold for Canada, I was so proud- being mostly I'm a Canadian, EH! ;D Eric Lamaze has been a true inspiration to me, I hope one day I'm as successful as him in my hopeful show jumping career and I can only wish I had a horse at talented as Hickstead.

I do not own any of the clips or the audio, although I edited both audio and clips so please don't steal! I made this video in hopes of capturing the power and beauty by the performances of both Eric Lamaze and Hickstead. The speeches suite the pair very well in my opinion. please comment, like, subscribe and FAVOURITE! I'd love to hear your opinions. :D

We were truly blessed to watch Hickstead and Eric Lamaze compete together, they were a duo that could never be matched. RIP Hickstead, enjoy horsie heaven.
