Vintage Thomas Blug Strat LH set up

Описание к видео Vintage Thomas Blug Strat LH set up

This set up (and slight left-to-right conversion) was supposed to be fairly straightforward... that is, until I discovered the nut slot was way over-wide (front to back) and had been badly mauled. By whom? We'll never know. What's certain is that there is no replacement nut out there that would fit snugly in this slot so it means I have to make a custom Tusq nut from scratch. This as you'll see adds about an hour of frustration to the job.
The idea here was to convert this right-handed guitar (with an upside-down left-handed neck) to a left-handed player by fitting a new left-handed nut and by setting the bridge up left-handed. I also planned to level the frets to enable a lower action to be set over the 7.5" radius neck.
The business of making a new nut for the slot was extended because the more I worked, the worse it turned out the nut slot was. On top of being over-wide it wasn't even flat, with a gouged slope on one end leaving a gap no matter how flat the nut base was or the majority of the nut slot was. I came up with a solution to pad this out (rather than endlessly file the slot even deeper) - to use my resin 'burn-in stick'. By heating this stick with a soldering iron I can drip molten resin into the slot end and scrap it flush. The cooled resin isn't massively strong but it will last a long time.
