De Slag om Rotterdam (1940) – de strijd om de Maasbruggen

De Slag om Rotterdam (de strijd om de Maasbruggen) vond plaats in mei 1940 tijdens de Duitse inval van Nederland. Duitse parachutisten werden losgelaten ten zuiden van de stad en watervliegtuigen met soldaten landden op de Nieuwe Maas. Zij probeerden de maasbruggen veilig te stellen. Er ontstonden hevige gevechten met de Nederlandse troepen waaronder het Korps Mariniers (naar verluid noemden de Duitsers hen de 'zwarte duivels'). De veldslag eindigde met het bombardement op Rotterdam. Daarmee kwam de Duitse verovering van Nederland tot een einde. Leer meer over Nederland in de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
