Hello, with SPL behind us and some time off before INVITATIONAL VI, it's time to start gathering pieces of a RBY OU guide.
You don't need me to tell you that good things take time.
This is a complex subject, the tier is easy to learn and hard to master. Only a few players become great in a short period of time: the progression beginner - good ladderer - tournament player - team tournament player usually requires a lot of practice.

19:29 just a quick look at the other stuff: Articuno, Dragonite, Moltres, Victreebel, Lapras, Persian
Knowing the speed (at least the list) for every OU pokemon is a prerequisite to some degree. I mean, that makes things a lot easier. Knowing critical hit rates (base speed / 512) damage calcs, basic mech stuff... you can find these with ease.
In this video I'm going through the intricacies of 1 versus 1 matchups AFTER THE SLEEP WAR - which is coming soon.
Even in this case, the subject is harder than it looks. I'm quite certain that each and every one of the 10 SPL players would approach this matter in a different way.
I think my main goal was to highlight what can happen with RNG through the course of a game. At the end of the day RNG is literally what makes this game replayable. People blame luck and even though there are times where you get screwed and that's undisputable, there are many times where "you had it coming".
When I started I knew absolutely nothing about RBY OU and the first step I took was learning the matchup chart I had found on RBY 2k10. A wise decision.
Understanding 1 versus 1 matchups is just the beginning of the trip: after that you'll learn team matchups, how to put up a strategy and how risk/reward and mindgames work.
A 20 minute video is not going to replace the grueling trial and error process that every elite player is going through. On the daily, in many cases
(not in my case, but that's only because I did that at some point and I can guarantee you that if I were to play a lot every day again I would get better).
However, it's going to clear your mind and save a lot of time. To put it short, this will give you a chance at doing something you wouldn't be up for.
Obviously, questions are welcome. It was 100% impossible for me to cover everything.
What's the difference between an ordinary player and an elite one? In general, the elite player will hardly ever be surprised by something. You know what you have, you know what your opponents are trying to do, how to stop them, how to not be stopped. Just like in any sports.
What about 1v1 matchups? An elite player can tell a good decision regardless of the outcome. The outcome often depends on RNG. Sometimes it's ok to blame luck, but you're only allowed to do that if you have seen enough of this game to the point where you can tell that the bad stuff that just happened to you was something you either couldn't help or that was worth risking.
Knowing matchups is also necessary for building a team. You only have 4 moveslots for every pokemon so knowing 1 versus 1 matchups is key for assessing your needs and priorities.
