মদ নিয়ে মাতামাতি প্রাচীনকাল থেকে দেশে-বিদেশে কম হয়নি। মদ্যপানের ইতিহাসও মানবসভ্যতায় সুপ্রাচীন। প্রাচীন মায়া সভ্যতা, ইজিপ্ট, গ্রিস, চিন ইত্যাদি দেশে মদের দেবতা ছিল। ভারতও তার ব্যতিক্রম নয়। প্রাচীন ভারতে সোমরস অর্থাৎ সুরার দেবতা ছিলেন সোম। বাংলা অর্থাৎ বঙ্গদেশের মদও বহির্বঙ্গে বিখ্যাত ছিল। গৌড়ের গুড় থেকে তৈরি প্রসিদ্ধ মদ ছিল ‘গৌড়ি’। চাল, গম, নারকেলের জল, তালের রস ইত্যাদি বিভিন্ন জিনিস গেঁজিয়ে তৈরি হতো বাংলার মদ। আজও তারি, মহুয়া ইত্যাদি মদ পাওয়া যায়। কিন্তু কোথা থেকে এলো এই মদ? মানুষ কবে থেকে শুরু করলো ইথানল অ্যালকোহল অর্থাৎ মদ্যপান? -এসব নিয়েই আজকের পর্ব।
Alcohol has been a part of human civilization since ancient times, both domestically and internationally. The history of alcohol consumption is deeply rooted in human society. Ancient civilizations such as the Mayans, Egyptians, Greeks, and Chinese had their own gods associated with alcohol. India is no exception to this trend. In ancient India, the deity associated with Soma, a sacred drink, was highly regarded. In the Bengal region, alcohol was also renowned beyond its borders. The famous alcohol known as 'Gouri' was made from sugarcane juice in Gaur, an ancient region in Bengal. Various ingredients like rice, wheat, coconut water, and palm sap were used to craft different types of alcohol in Bengal.
Even today, alcoholic beverages like "Tari" and "Mahua" are still consumed. But where did this tradition of alcohol consumption originate? When did humans begin using ethanol, which is the main component of alcoholic drinks? These are the topics of today's discussion.
