Anesthetize | Porcupine Tree | Gothik Serpent Cover

This is it, the big one. My #1 favorite song of all time, Anesthetize (from ‪@PorcupineTreeOfficial‬'s Fear of a Blank Planet) is the finest piece of songwriting by the maestro ‪@StevenWilsonHQ‬ . A gargantuan 17+ minutes in length, it has three distinct movements and hundreds of layers of synthesizers, guitars and vocals.

I had held back on doing my version of this for a while, as I wanted to get better at my production abilities first before tackling this behemoth of a tune and its huge variety of sounds. This was very much the right call, as by the time I was finished, my Reaper session for this cover had over 130 tracks.

The goal for this cover was not to reinterpret the song, but to infuse it with the sonic palette I have been developing to see how it would sound through my voice. This includes a more prominent bass, growly guitar, and the combination of my and Olivia's voices.

One particular sound that was unexpectedly challenging to pull off was the synthesized percussion that plays throughout the entirety of "The Pills I'm Taking". I had to create four different sounds and layer them together, and as the tune progressed, different layers would ebb and flow.

The final result, including this video, took about four months to do and hopefully lives up to the standards laid down by PT.
