ART SUPPLIES: I use table salt (normal fine grain, not coarse or kosher) to make the texture effect in my color chart swatches. This not only shows how nice of an effect you can get for texture tricks in your paintings, but also identifies binder additives that block this movement of pigment in poor quality supplies. It allows for easier identification of separation of pigments in multiple color mixes, and shows when a pigment is too heavy (dense or thick particles, typically granulating colors) which don't react at all.
