In this full tutorial, I walk you step by step through the process of creating a brand-new Battle Lab building for a custom faction in Red Alert 2 / Yuri’s Revenge using SHP files.

We start by explaining the basics of building types (faction-specific & civilian) and the meaning behind the first two letters in building file names. Then, we cover palette colors and the special team color system.

Next, we move to Blender to create the build-up animation, shadow, and static images, before converting them into SHP with ImageShaper and refining them in SHP Builder.

The tutorial also shows how to add building animations (lights, doors, radars) and link everything inside art.ini and rules.ini. Along the way, we fix common issues such as animation layering with ActiveAnimZAdjust and animation speed using the Rate parameter.

Finally, we create damaged states of the building, add effects in Photoshop, and design a custom cameo (PCX) to display in-game.
