We have rebranded this rock Desert Smores since it has all of the characteristic of one of the great American outdoor campfire treats.

This rock is called Navajo Gold by most of the Southern and Central California rock and landscape supply yards, some call Mesa Gold. It is simply insulting to the Navajo Nation to call this rock by that name. We are stuck with referring to this beautiful gold, chocolate and random white quartz rock as Navajo Gold since designers, landscapers and some homeowners are used to searching for it that way. The Navajo were not a tribe with territory in California and even if they were the practice of using Native American tribal names for rock materials needs to change. There some Native American Nations that have authorized the use of their name or in fact actually operate the quarries themselves and sell the rock branded under their tribal names.

Why not call it Mesa Gold? That could lead to a lot of confusion since Cemex Inc. in Arizona quarries Table Mesa Brown and Table Mesa Gold rock products.
