Idi Amin Dada: The Butcher of Uganda

Описание к видео Idi Amin Dada: The Butcher of Uganda

Today we look at the life of Idi Amin Dada, who was one of the most brutal military dictators to wield power in post-independence Africa. Idi Amin came to power after he overthrew the elected government of Milton Obote and declared himself president of Uganda.

He went on to launch a ruthless eight-year regime in which an estimated 300,000 civilians were massacred.

His expulsion of all Indian and Pakistani citizens in 1972 from Uganda —along with increasing military expenditures—brought about the country’s economic decline, the impact of which lasted decades.
His reign of terror came to an end in 1979 as Ugandan exiles and Tanzanians took control of the capital of Kampala, forcing Amin to flee.
Amin, also known as the "Butcher of Uganda" ,was never brought to book for his horrific crimes and he lived out the remainder of his life in Saudi Arabia.

In this episode we look at Amin’s rise to power, his reign of terror and his eventual demise.
